Getting a dental implant

The process starts with a thorough dental examination and a precise 3D scan of your jaws to determine the amount and quality of bone present and your suitability for an implant. This information is used to plan the type and position of the implant required. After this, we surgically place the implant painlessly under local anaesthesia. This process takes between one and two hours.

A period of three to six months of healing time is required before the implant is ready to receive a permanent crown. When ready, a copy of the implant is taken and a crown is handcrafted and attached to the implant via a specific connector.

The implant will look, feel and function like a natural tooth.

Can I have multiple dental implants?

If you have lost more than one tooth and the bone in your jaw is strong and healthy, then multiple dental implants are the most natural looking answer. In other cases, implants can be used to secure bridges, and it is even possible to have implants and bridges instead of dentures.

Dental implant care

It is important to look after the implant just as well as your natural teeth. Brush and floss around the implant and your natural teeth at least twice a day.
Regular dental check-ups and hygiene cleans are important as this allows us to check the implant so that it will last for many years, possibly even a lifetime if well cared for. Our latest hygiene technology is great for cleaning around implants and achieves amazing results.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are one of the best ways to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Being fixed into the jaw, they are the closest in terms of look and feel to natural teeth.

The components of a dental implant-

  • The implant – this is part that is inserted into the jaw and is the “root” of the new tooth. This is hidden from view.
  • The connector – this links the implant to the crown.
  • The crown – this is that part that looks like the teeth you see in your mouth. This is hand crafted when the implant has healed or “integrated” with the jaw.
